Talking SCORED TO DEATH with J. Blake Fichera

From the Ki Ki Ki's to the Dance Macabres, scores have been an essential part of the horror landscape since the days of Nosferatu. So why is the composer so often overlooked when we share our love for these classics? On this episode we welcome to the show author and podcast host J. Blake Fichera, here to talk about his new book Scored To Death 2, his second round of interviews with the Masters Of Scorror (We're sorry, Blake). In a lovely chat, we pick his brain on the scores that influenced both him and Hollywood, the role of the score in all genres of filmmaking, and his desire to spotlight composers big and small, with everyone from John Carpenter to Jay Chattaway.

RONDO AND BOB with Director Joe O'Connell

Robert Burns is searching for Rondo Hatton and the new documentary, years in the making, aims to capture the near spiritual quest by the famed art director of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Tourist Trap, and many others! Director and lauded journalist Joe M. O'Connell pieced together this previously unknown personal tale in the annals of horror history through reenactments, interviews with family, friends, the likes of Tobe Hooper, Dee Wallace, Joe Bob Briggs, and much more. We sit down with Joe to discuss the impact of the film, the long making-of process, meeting Bob Burns himself before his untimely passing, guerilla filmmaking at its finest, and get down to why this story needed to be told about the intersecting lives of these two faces of horror. RONDO AND BOB is streaming via Electric Entertainment on all platforms.

Mini BOP - IN SEARCH OF TOMORROW: The Definitive '80s Sci-Fi Documentary

The modern world getting you down? Like 99% of Earthlings, you're probably suffering from a chronic condition known as "today," and the only known treatment is to lose yourself in the tomorrows of yesterday! Thankfully, CreatorVC has got you covered with the latest entry in their series of 80's genre retrospectives, In Search Of Tomorrow! Featuring interviews with industry legends like Clancy Brown, Paul Verhoeven, and Joe Dante, as well as a diverse range of journalists, actors, and super-fans, Tomorrow provides much more than your average highlight real. But are the hours of interviews worth the price-tag, when the sci-fi world has already been covered in such detail? The obvious answer is "yes," but the BOP Crew is here to reassure you anyway with their review!

Mini BOP - THE SLEEPER MUST AWAKEN: MAKING DUNE

From the darkness of De Laurentiis, the author longs to see. One shoots out in Mexico City, space fetus walk with me. Streaming exclusively on Arrow Video comes The Sleeper Must Awaken: Making Dune, and Mike n' Jamie are here to talk about the documentary the whole seitch has been waiting for! With attention on the recent adaptation, many have revisited the first attempt to bring Arrakis to life (the first to make it to screen, at least). A critical and commercial disaster, the movie is remembered mostly for burning David Lynch on the Hollywood system and setting him down a stranger, owl-strewn path. But this doc shows just how much love and innovation went into a film deemed impossible, and even the most jaded Dune Dude might find themselves looking at the desert planet with a fresh wonder. Not to mention more gimp-suit content than you can shake an Everett McGill at!

Mini BOP - IN SEARCH OF DARKNESS PART 2

You've heard the BOP Crew talk about their love of genre cinema before, but not their love of watching other people express that passion with more eloquence and sex appeal! This episode, we're talking about IN SEARCH OF DARKNESS II, the second leg of CreatorVC's critically-acclaimed journey through the horror cinema of the 1980s, with new interviews from Nancy Allen, Linnea Quigley, Clancy Brown, and at least one member of Slipknot. With a longer length and more diverse subject matter, is it as entertaining and rewatchable as the original, or is this the Halloween II (either of them) of horror docs?

Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley's Island of Dr. Moreau

We all experience failure from time to time. And when that failure concerns animal people, voodoo magic, pig lady orgies, and Albino Brando, some of us have to go to a Necromancer named Skip for a little help. Join the BOP Crew as they delve into the documentary, LOST SOUL: THE DOOMED JOURNEY OF RICHARD STANLEY'S ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU, and narrowly avoid being replaced by John Frankenheimer in the process. Dashed dreams, Val Kilmer, and the littlest man in the world on piano? We're well versed in at least one of those things already.
