HUNDREDS OF BEAVERS

With studios less sure how to reach audiences by the day, only one film has the answer to what people truly want: HUNDREDS OF BEAVERS. In the newest movie from Mike Cheslik and the team behind Lake Michigan Monster bring us a new descent into whimsy and madness in a film so ridiculous, we're convinced it stars Cody. Join Mike and Jamie as they talk about this delirious swirl of live action cartoon, silent(ish) movie, harrowing survival tale, XXX-ed jugs ,and 16-bit farming sim (not kidding), HUB might be the most creative movie of the year, the funniest movie were seen in ages, and without a doubt the best movie ever made on the subject of man's battle against mascot suits.

SAW III Commentary Track

Editor's Note: Mike's audio was borked and did our best to do a Lazarus on it and save the commentary. Will be jarring at first but hope we got it listenable for you. Our apologies!

With Saw X currently gouging up the theaters, we continue our ongoing social experiment against the moral integrity of Cody's liver, BOP n' A Movie! This edition's reading from The Book of BOP brings us to Saw III, Darren Lynn Bousman's sophomore turn in the director's chair and Leigh Whannell's final word on Jigsaw and all his animal friends. Avoiding the franchise's most miscast leading man at all costs, the crew discuss the surprising tenderness and hilarious cruelty of Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith as horror's homicidal Batman & Robin. Containing perhaps the highest quantity of actors too good for the third entry in a Lionsgate franchise, does this end of the original era work as the finale to a trilogy, or is it just another link in the chain? And just how much footage did they shoot of Amanda wrecking people's shit? Swallow this tiny cassette drowned in Malort and find out!

SAW Commentary Track

Hello, listeners. We'd like to play a commentary. If it's [MONTH TAPE IS BEING PLAYED], it must be BOP! And tonight, the crew is untangling the first knot in the increasingly convoluted horror juggernaut that is SAW, in the first of a new BOP n' A Movie commentary series! The Elwes are screaming and the Malort is flowing as they discuss the very first James Wan and Leigh Whannell joint, the ingenious filmmaking cheats that allowed an inexperienced production to both surpass expectations and accidentally create an era-defining style, the immediate pop culture royal treatment the nearly DTV film received, how the influx of Saw-alikes changed perception of the original, and how Tobin Bell getting off that floor is still shocking every goddamn time-- Spoilers. Now be a mensch and rewind that tape for the next guy, cool?

SUPER MARIO BROS. (1993) Commentary Track

Nothing is impossible, listeners. Improbable? Unlikely? Sure, but never impossible. If you need any more proof, just look at the new Nintendo movie that hit theaters this week, something fans thought they'd never see again after the subject of this BOP n' A Tragedy audio commentary, 1993's Super Mario Bros! You're heard the jokes, the brutal behind-the-scenes stories, and the lamentations of Leguizamo, but the BOP Crew (okay, mostly Jamie) aren't content with leaving the first video game movie on the scrapheap. Between the eight (!) scripts that slowly mutated a fantasy comedy into a cyberpunk thriller-- then tried to walk it back at the last minute, the truly stellar makeup and animatronic work, a cast no version of this movie deserved, and an unforgettable cityscape that rivals the best sci-fi worlds of the 90's, there's plenty more to this bob-omb than you've been led to believe, and if Cody can avoid dying from fungal poisoning before the end of the commentary, you might hear it all! So grab your THWOMP boots, cover up your framed photo of Bob Hoskins, and get ready to trust mushrooms with your mortal soul, because Box Office Pulp is here to walk the dinosaur... whatever it is that means.

SCREAM 6

Ghostface and BOP are back, baby! After their respective hiatuses, one is here to talk about movies and the other to cut a bloody swath through New York City. We'll let you decide which is which. Regardless, The Core Four are back on the silver screen with a new masked slasher to contend with, and Mike and Cody get to gab about what may be one of their new favorite entries in the Scream franchise! Mostly importantly, though, they get to loudly declare "Kirby Lives!" with righteous indignation. So how does the sixth installment fare without series lead Sidney Prescott? What larger thesis is the film presenting? Is this the New York set slasher we've long dreamed of? All this and updates on Stu Watch 2023 in this very episode!

The Gastro Horror of THE MENU with Spooky Sarah Says

On this special Thanksgiving episode, Box Office Pastries treats you to an expertly crafted culinary experience that will leave your earbuds raving! We welcome to our kitchen guest sous-chef Sarah Stubbs of Geeks Who Eat, who has prepared an appetizer of sinful cuisine confessions. Next comes the main course, a delightful desiccation of Mark Mylod's delectable horror debut, The Menu. Our love for this satire of class, pretention, and the disregard for labor is apparent in every savory bite -- and don't you dare ask for ketchup! Next up comes the dessert, as Sarah bakes a love letter to gastro-horror, a subgenre whose entries number in the hundreds, some of them even good! Finally, once you've finished we will provide a take-home box, colloquially known as a "dog's bag," filled with after-dinner discourse on the finer points of fine dining, and the poorer points of poor punmanship. Enjoy, and we implore you, take all you want, but please eat what you take.
