SAW VII (3D): THE FINAL CHAPTER Commentary Track

 

We can't say the man didn't warn us it would get bloody. Unfortunately, our plunge into America's favorite amputation-based horror franchise has brought us to this BOP n' A Tragedy commentary for Saw 7, AKA Saw 3D, AKA Saw 33⅓: The Final Insult. Opening with Jigsaw saying the name "Brad" and going downhill from there, this attempt to squeeze a few more drops of blood out of the Hoffman saga killed the franchise as we knew it, with poorly utilized 3D, a threadbare script, and a style that screams "the director only participated under threat of lawsuit." Is there anything to love about the last dance of Mark and Jill, or was too much lost in the attempt to blend two very different movies together in one hastily-constructed finale? Was finally pulling the pin on Cary Elwes worth it? Is The Final Chapter a glass coffin constructed by its own producers? Will a flashback ever reveal why John Kramer wears is hat that way? In Saw fashion, we may or may not answer any of these questions!

SAW VI Commentary Track

At the end of the 'Jigsaw's Last Will Trilogy' (we're naming just now), our story finds Hoffman's world crashing down around him as the Billy-slain return from the dead, janitors battle their corporate overlords for lung supremacy, and the final convoluted pieces of John's plan fall into place. Avoiding the franchise's most miscast leading man at all costs, the crew discuss the surprising tenderness and hilarious cruelty of Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith as horror's homicidal Batman & Robin. Containing perhaps the highest quantity of actors too good for the third entry in a Lionsgate franchise, does this end of the original era work as the finale to a trilogy, or is it just another link in the chain? FOUND FOOTAGE (TO THE END OF YOUR LIFE)

RE: BOX OFFICE PULP, "Found Footage Episode," Archived 8-17-16:

A few weeks ago, the Crew of the Box Office Pulp podcast attempted to document an episode in which they would analyze, dissect, and discuss, the film genre known as "Found Footage." They have not been heard from since. Three days ago, a brown package arrived at our offices (The Kinnison County Sheriff's Department), inside was a recording of their final days spent researching the aforementioned style of movie. At first, it was noted that all seemed well; each member of the crew provided insightful comments ranging from the intimacy the genre produces, the affecting and sometimes terrifying tension that only Found Footage brings, the mistakes that are often made, a passionate defense of that class of filmmaking against detractors, and even whether a web series about Slender Man is better than an actual movie about Slender Man (we at the Sheriff's Department can confirm). But part way through the episode, the innate weirdness of the co-host designated Cody Alft appears to take physical form. What happens next is shocking, and highly disturbing. We are releasing this audio to the public in hopes of anyone out there having information to the last known whereabouts of the Crew. If you do, contact us at 1-800-BOP.

CLOVERFIELD

After extensive research using deep sea probes AND orbital satellites, The BOP Crew can confirm that, yes, it's alive, and it is indeed huge. Whether or not it's Voltron is still up for some debate.
