Damn your own personal spice as you join Baron Cody Drinkonnen, Michael'Dib, and Euphoria's Zendaya as Jami, while they record a BOP n' A Movie thought unrecordable on the film thought unfilmable! Battling public apathy, a pandemic, and production woes longer than most cast members have been alive, Denis Villeneuve's Frank Herbert's Dune: Part One had no reason to be the surprise hit it was, and the crew spend this commentary discussing the ways this story of political corruption, environmental disorder, and an existing order crumbling under the weight of insurrection just might have struck a cord witb people! Along their journey through the desert they touch on the ground-breaking effects work, the polarizing sex appeal of the Kwisatz Haderach, and Duncan Idaho cuckolding the Tyrant God of Arrakis.

VIRUS Commentary Track

There are films that expand the mind, enrich the spirit, or even teach us how to be better. Cinema can, and often is, a triumph. But, dear listeners, haven't the triumphs of the medium been examined, analyzed, and spoken of enough? The laws of time and space have a rule: for every positive, for every triumph... there must be an opposite. And so, welcome to BOP 'n A Tragedy! A mini-series where we put films that are commercial or critical failures under a microscope, and learn to celebrate what is there, warts and all. To kick it off, we're watching a real schlocky clunker of a problematic fave, 1999's Jamie Lee Curtis disowned, VIRUS! Robot zombie cyborgs from space, one of the lesser Baldwin brothers, Donald Sutherland putting in the weirdest performance ever, all based upon an indie comic by a fairly well regarded writer and directed by Jim Cameron's go to special effects whiz! A recipe for something special, even if it didn't quite turn out. But why didn't it? In our feature audio commentary, we get to the bottom, from production history, to structure and concept, all while giggling at some of the coolest creature effects put on film.

After listening to this, we hope you sit there, blood on your knuckles, beer down your shirt, sick on your shoes, knowing you'll never listen to a finer podcast than this one. And you know what? FOUND FOOTAGE (TO THE END OF YOUR LIFE)

RE: BOX OFFICE PULP, "Found Footage Episode," Archived 8-17-16:

A few weeks ago, the Crew of the Box Office Pulp podcast attempted to document an episode in which they would analyze, dissect, and discuss, the film genre known as "Found Footage." They have not been heard from since. Three days ago, a brown package arrived at our offices (The Kinnison County Sheriff's Department), inside was a recording of their final days spent researching the aforementioned style of movie. At first, it was noted that all seemed well; each member of the crew provided insightful comments ranging from the intimacy the genre produces, the affecting and sometimes terrifying tension that only Found Footage brings, the mistakes that are often made, a passionate defense of that class of filmmaking against detractors, and even whether a web series about Slender Man is better than an actual movie about Slender Man (we at the Sheriff's Department can confirm). But part way through the episode, the innate weirdness of the co-host designated Cody Alft appears to take physical form. What happens next is shocking, and highly disturbing. We are releasing this audio to the public in hopes of anyone out there having information to the last known whereabouts of the Crew. If you do, contact us at 1-800-BOP.
