The Humbugs of Cinema: A Christmas Carol(s) Retrospective

Old Box Office Pulp was better than its word. It returned to the well of Dickens yet again that December, to spend another holiday discussing where the adaptations of A Christmas Carol fell on the gravy-grave scale. They ranked the various Scrooges, Fezzywigs, Marleys, and infinitely more; and to Cody, who did NOT die of alcohol poisoning last commentary, there was much introspection on the logistics of employing a street urchin, the bizarre phenomenon of Scrooge Action Scenes, why Albert Finney decided to go Full Witch, whether London bookie Eddie Scrooge ever beat that murder rap, and whether the miser truly ever had become as good a friend, as good a master, and as good a man, as the movies always said. And so, as BOP Guy once observed, "Box Office Pulp hasn't felt holiday cheer since he licked a car battery and was legally dead for thirty seconds!"

You've seen The Crew go head-to-glove with Freddy Krueger. You've seen them say n-o to Jack-O,  and chase Pumpkinhead back to Lance Henrickson's shack with his pumpkintail between his pumpkinlegs! But now they face off against cinema's most terrifying creatures... Bud Abbott and Lou Costello, the original Vaudevillian Villains! In yet another BOP 'n A Movie rock 'em and sock 'em punch-out involving things which go bump in the night and/or snarl a lot, we survey the only surviving record of three hapless monsters who left the old country in search of the American dream, and found only a nightmare. A nightmare of sight gags, prat-falls, and wacky chase scenes! It's the movie that invented the horror-comedy as we know it, contains perhaps Bela Lugosi's strongest performance as a creature of the night, the dawn of Glenn Strange's tenure as the titular Monster, and feels as fun and witty today as it was in 1948! Many a horror-nerd hold this film near and dear, us included, so we're busting out the popcorn (and a special mad science-y concoction of booze!) to dig deep in dissecting some cinematic history and raise this feature commentary for ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN from the dead!

THE SHINING Commentary Track (European Cut)

Want some ice cream, Doc? No? Well, how about a BOP 'n A Movie feature commentary for Stanley Kubrick's horror masterpiece, THE SHINING! Also, no? Well, screw you, psychic kid, you're getting it anyway! For this one, the Crew heads to the secluded Overlook Hotel to get some deep cut film analysis done over the winter season, but per-usual, ghosts compel them to kill each other instead. It happens. But when not CORRECTING one another with an axe to the sternum, they do delve into things like the philosophy of horror, how exactly a director drives Olive Oyl to lose all her hair, which character's secret pimp coat may finally provide answers, and so much more! Oh, and Cody points out flags. Ride the blood elevator down and get lost in a hedge maze of impossibility with us on this one, folks. Just be wary, because all work and no play makes Box Office Pulp go... something, something...
